Current Photo Friday theme: Vibrant
Mattel model Abby, wearing one of my dresses based on a McCall’s pattern, in the Place d’Armes Hotel courtyard, New Orleans, May 2009. I was there for a literary conference, and writers had fun posing with my dolls.
I’m happily compelled to share this comment from my last week’s “Album Cover” theme, about a photo that I originally used for a Photo Friday challenge in October of last year. Marc is the person who started the Photo Friday site in 2002, and I told him his comment made my year.
Can I tell you, Becky, that this shot, when you originally posted it, *is* the shot that inspired the #album_cover challenge. It’s a great shot with such lovely storytelling in a single frame. Kudos! marc · Sep 19 2024
I love that dress!
Thanks! I can’t believe I used to do all that sewing.
Does your arthritis prevent it now, or are you simply not as inclined?
Not as inclined. I do have a bunch of Ken shirts cut out that I could sew. The pattern was a little complicated, but I’m sure I could relearn it and finish those if I were in a sewing mood. I’ve mostly repaired a quilt (not one with sentimental value) and then repaired it again, repeat, repeat…that’s on the day bed. Sometimes the dogs get after weak squares and pull out stuffing, so out come the needles and thread again.
Quilting is one of the skills that I would like to learn, though I want to do so many things that I never get round to. An LJ friend of mine made and sent me a quilted table runner made with squares of William Morris fabric. I love it!
Lynne makes beautiful quilts. She’s also made table runners for herself, friends, and family. The quilts she’s made for me are very precious, and the small one my mother made that Lynne deconstructed, rearranged, and restored has been a great gift.
