Tom has spotted hummingbirds several times in the ruellia (aka, Mexican petunia, or wild petunia) plants outside the kitchen window. I haven’t been so lucky, but I did get some good photos of the plants yesterday.
ETA two days later: Spotted several, but whenever I had my camera (to shoot through a dirty window pane and a screen), they flew away. This one was going flower to flower, but by the time my phone camera caught him, he was behind leaves.
Wow. How wonderful to have hummingbirds pay a visit!
They are prolific around here because of their migration path. North of us, Lynne has lots of hummingbird feeders and gets to enjoy them. Many years ago, we went to a friend’s parents’ home in the country, and they had hummingbird feeders hanging from the roof over a long porch–almost every four feet. Those feeders were BUSY.
Clearly, we don’t have such exotic creatures here. They are something I would be thrilled to see if I ever pay the States another visit (though that’s not likely to be in the next four years…)
I understand that.
