Can I substitute Pancakes or a Belgian Waffle with real maple syrup instead of grits, please? Thanks. Also, I’m a tea or a real hot chocolate drinker than coffee, despite that lactose thing. All that artificial stuff isn’t rise and shine, at all!
I am a morning person though. If we would stop this daylight savings crapola crap, sticking to normal noon when the sun is directly above my head, then the sun would rise and shine when I have to get up and get ready for work, saving my electricity by not having to have the stupid lights on at oh-dark-thirty in the morning! Besides the bulk of the bill is refrigerators and air conditioners in the desert where water is scarce.
You can have anything the way you order it at your favorite breakfast place!
My coffee addiction began in graduate school. That was a long time ago; I don’t think it’ll ever go away. I actually drink a lot less coffee than my parents did or Tom does, so there’s that!
Grits: I’ll always be a Southern girl no matter where I live. =) I do love good biscuits, and I’m not very good at baking those. So it’s either toast or asking Tom, Lynne, or Debby to bake them. All three of theirs are different, but they’re all good.
Do you ever go out for breakfast nowadays?
No. The last time was March 6, 2023, and that was the first time since maybe February of 2020. We get plenty of takeout meals, but I’m not interested in going out to eat. Both times I’ve done very public things other than retail/grocery shopping, it was with people who are really sensitive to the anxiety that was reborn in me thanks to the pandemic. It’s not a new thing, it was just well-managed (and, therefore, invisible to even people who know me) for decades.
Are you agoraphobic? I know a couple of people who are at least borderline. I experience a lot of anxiety myself. Do you find aromatherapy helps? I know our Complementary Therapies team here at the hospital use it and a lot of people report benefits.
I don’t think I’m agoraphobic. I haven’t been diagnosed as such. I have a wariness of crowds now because I know a large majority of people won’t get vaccinated (and not just for Covid; they don’t get flu shots and other vaccinations for things to which people of a certain age and with certain physical conditions, like me, are vulnerable), nor will they wear the masks that protect other people. Their choice, and I understand masks can be uncomfortable, especially in our climate, but it makes the world feel a little more hostile from my perspective. For whatever reason, I’m invariably treated well when I’m in stores by employees and other people. I like good energy, and I like people, so I appreciate that. With all the writing I do and the time I have, it would be nice occasionally to spend a couple of hours at a coffee shop with my laptop and eavesdrop and people watch as I once did. Or meet friends for breakfast or dinner, when they’re available. I’m just not comfortable doing that anymore. I’m sure all the horrible things I see on the news and social media don’t help. Also, I don’t like driving anymore, and this is definitely a car city with a lot of traffic and a lot of roadwork going on always. I don’t know how much aromatherapy helps. I’ve found the most important thing for me is a good night’s sleep, and sometimes aromatherapy does help me fall asleep.
