Now that September ends
I don’t use the memes because of what the guy in Green Day was writing about and how he wishes people would stop with the jokes. I get it. I’ve got bad connections to some months, too. I figure mentioning October, when it’s okay to wake up, is better than focusing on September’s reminder to people who may feel like it’s a month of sleepwalking or worse.
The thing about aging is–every month begins to fill with anniversaries and memories of good things and bad things. I’m not sure I get any tougher, but I get more inclined to recognize the balance and to honor what was and what remains.
I don’t know if any of that makes sense.
The Green Day song went from Sam’s birthday post funeral to annual performance write ups (or, what others might assign as that cliched “So, what did you do
for your summer vacation” for your mere extra pennies next year?) anthem. I struggle with the memes and such September always brings. Labor day is supposed to be the end of the outdoor pool season, and at the time in Virginia the slow doom of grade school returning (and therefor the final end to the endless two-three months prior of back to school sales!!!)I appreciate your 2nd paragraph, though, and that makes sense.
