You don’t have to put it in the comments, though it would be fun if you did. But this writing prompt is for you. One thing that is written into the Neverending Saga has to do with elderly people and what they bring to the lives of the characters. I can’t imagine my own life without the seniors I’ve known and how they graced, entertained, enhanced, and touched my life. The best of them were also a little unpredictable and still very young inside.
Do with this what you will, you and Mr. Stanley.
This whole thing started for me this morning when I shot this photo while thinking of one of my characters. Maybe the photo can also be part of your completing this prompt. CREATE!
It’s Mr Stanley’s birthday today. Oh Mr Stanley. He had an obsession with apples that drove us all mad. It’s a sauce! It’s magical! It keeps the doctors away: yeah, mate, in a nursing home. But, as he lay there in bed with those dreaming eyes that would have set fire to any man’s heart, vaguely staring at that apple tree through the closed window, we all conspired.
Each of us, including the staff, one by one, we quietly entered and left only an apple in that room. Mr Stanley, that suavely french apple farm worker, peacefully dreaming away.
Finally, with a whole room of apples, I approached him quietly with the birthday apple pie, fresh from the oven. The aroma gently breezed around the room from the ceiling fan. Le piece de resistance! He breathed deep and slipped away.
I think Mr. Stanley, like the story, had a sad but sweet ending. ♥
