In the UK, it coincided with “Mothering Sunday,” originally based on the fourth Sunday of the Christian festival of Lent. In the U.S., “Mother’s Day” was suggested by a particular woman in honor of her mother, and that idea grew to a point that President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Monday of May be established to honor mothers.
