Oh, Doonesbury. I’m not sure there were ever such small squares that packed such a large wallop. Monday I was researching iron supplements (circa 1970s) for the WIP, and suddenly I was absolutely sure the tag line I remembered was in fact for Geritol. Yeah, it was. Played right into the scene I was writing. I love these happy coincidences.
But this guy… Did ANYONE like this commercial?
I’ve never really understood Doonesbury. It seemed like a grown up cartoon
Accurate.
I grew up with it. Read it as my mother did so we could comment on it to each other, which made it even more fun. But definitely social commentary, political commentary, and then a revolving and expanding cast of characters (making it fun but sometimes challenging to keep up with). Also, one of the things I could laugh about with my brother and at least one of my nephews.
My mother bought books of it, I bought books of it, most of those may be with Tim now.
It was great adjunct reading while keeping up with women’s rights, Watergate, wars, politics, etc. It’s part of my personal zeitgeist.
