Yes, I know. Bad for planet. Should support local. Evil Empire. Overpriced. Straws. Cups. Plastic. Litter. Oceans.
We recycle. We have reusable straws. We do what we can within the parameters of my addiction. I don’t smoke! I don’t drink alcohol! I’m weaning myself off of meat. I MUST HAVE A VICE.
This past week, a major water pipe that supplies about sixty percent of Houston’s water was damaged and had to be repaired. The repairs went okay, but there was no way of knowing about water contamination or how far it could have traveled. SO… a very large area including our neighborhood was under a boil ban. Anything that might go into your mouth, your children’s mouths, your pets’ mouths, had to be boiled before use. Meaning water for drinking, brushing teeth, cooking, MAKING COFFEE…
Thus the dozen Starbucks close to us could not brew or sell fresh-brewed coffee. Icemakers couldn’t ice. Etc.
March 1 is BARISTA DAY! I am loving them. We are back to normal. And my blood is being replenished.
Do you actually prefer Starbucks to other brands..?
Maybe we get the floor-sweepings?
Tea?
Well, *$ saw to killing off Teavana and keeping only their yucky blends so that they think people would stop boiling water in a clean pot (not contaminated with ancient old coffee leftovers as is frequently the case, even more yuck) and then steeping those leaves.
Airplanes and certain Paneras are also famous for mixing the tea hot water pitchers with those contaminated by ancient old coffee slime. My parents also seem to enjoy comparing the quality of the decaf at various places and choose to get theirs from a brewing place down the street which is not *$ either. And decaf is famous for sitting on a burner all day long.
There’s always a real hot coca (not *$ nor pretend stuff like Hershey’s or Carnation either, yuck), like Ghiardeli, Godiva or imported from EU.
If you want to make cool tea with boiled water, I’d make it in a strong glass pitcher or pot you can cover and let it cool to room temperature before transferring to another pitcher and placing in the fridge. Red or Raspberry Zinger are good this way.
