On those top shelves…those are not all my photo albums. I think some more may be hiding in boxes with other things on top of them. But to have access to a lifetime of photos–and earlier than that, because these include many of my parents’ photos, too–for the first time in more than a year is a huge step toward things feeling normal again.
This sight also makes my heart ache for everyone who, like me, has spent decades documenting family and friendships, but their photos won’t be coming home after the winds and floods of hurricanes. I’ve lost some videos and home movies that can’t be replaced, so I understand.
