Current Photo Friday theme: Golden
This twelve-plus-foot tall bust of Lincoln, resting on a 30-foot tall granite pedestal, is sculpted of bronze but gleams golden on the highway outside Laramie, Wyoming.

Someday, I want to visit this place. We had the Laramie Project production at Virginia Tech, and It was so very sad.
It’s very strange. I had totally forgotten that shortly after traveling through that area in the winter of…maybe 2000? I wrote a poem about Matthew Shepard. As I drove through there this time, more of the poem came back to me in bits and pieces. I need to find that poem.
He had a very lived-in face, didn’t he?
Yes. I can’t imagine any American president ever bore the weight of that office as heavily as he did. Though there have been presidents in my time I haven’t much admired, I always have respect for the office and compassion for the one who takes it on.
