Steak
Same!
Smoked up six slabs of baby backs – dry rubbed or sauced, your choice – my best yet, in my humble opinion, (fall off the bone tender, sweet, spicy, with just enough vinegar) for the family as we commemorated Memorial Day.
My kids, and now the grands, have grown accustommed to my mandate that after we eat and before we begin playing our tablet games, we watch a movie or a special to remember what the day is really about. Today it was “We Were Soldiers.”
We also paused to remember my late cousin, Mark Koury, the closest thing I had to an older brother, who was killed as a Naval Aviator in a training exercise in Florida the spring of my sophomore year at ‘Bama. We also paused to remember and to give thanks for all the others, along with the families, who made the supreme sacrifice. My tear-clouded thanks to all who gave and those who are still giving.
So articulate, as usual.
Barbecue in Texas is nothing like barbecue back home, and I say that as someone who is not a huge fan of it. But I do like Southern better than Southwestern–all across the table, from the meat to the beans to the cole slaw and potato salad. You can take the girl out of the South…
