  1. Trying out various LINUX distributions until Apple brings back Aperture, audio line in dedicated ports, the previous Mac Pro desktop instead of the cylindar, enable me to open thier new laptops and timker or upgrade, avtually a laptop with more than one port and I can use while it is chargimg would be too much to ask.

      1. For photography, there’s the FILE SYSTEM itself with DARK TABLE which does non-destructive edits saved as “side car” files next to the image in the file system. (It doesn’t manage the files in a data base vault, like Aperture, but you can treat the “side cars” as versions. It’s just more manual than Aperture and less manual than the pure file system.)

Also, there’s GIMP which kicks ass, but, like all image tools, it has a learning curve and always work on a copy of the image.

For iTunes (minus Apple and their stingy support in Linux despite being a BSD flavor of UNIX) there’s RhythmBox and Audacity, though if you ever figure out how to get iDevice from Apple to sync properly, let me know! In the days of Palm Pilot, this was dead easy in Linux.

There’s also LibreOffice. I’m suddenly able to read word perfect 5.1 files again but still no OS/2 Works files. It does work well with M$ *.docx etc. formats too. But, I miss Keynote.

So, the list of replacements is growing :).
