The former owner had cabinets of pecan custom made for his dining room–the room that will be our living room.
They weren’t built in, but one day while we were at the house, he asked if we wanted them. He wasn’t selling them, he was just willing to leave them, we figured probably because they were too heavy to move! I’d had other plans for that wall, but hey, it’s good furniture so we said yes, he could leave them there.
When the floor guys came, they helped Tom move the cabinets out of there, plus he took the mirror down, and that’s when we discovered that when the room was repainted at some point, they just painted around everything. They really are that heavy!
But Tom took care of that. Current appearance:
Since the middle cabinet is bonus storage space I didn’t expect to have, we gathered up all the games and puzzles from all the places they were tucked away at The Compound. Look, Lindsey, ORGANIZATION!
Bonus and unrelated shot for my family: How familiar do these look?
Looking good!!!! And yes we all remember Mother’s brown dishes and Amber glasses. They go really well in the new kitchen. Can’t wait till March gets here so I can see everything!!!
I wonder if I’ll be unpacked by then?!?
The room looks great! I love that accent color, and the floor! Looks great.
Thank you!
Just what you need … more bookshelves! I wish they were mine.
There can never be enough, can there?
Iced Tea tastes best from glasses like that.
I wonder how many gallons of tea I’ve drunk from those glasses….
They look like the kind of plates I could eat grits from.
The kitchen’s always open!
good use of that storage.
Name suggestion: The ESTATE – still secure, but more expansive… and filled with “estate” items from loved ones that have moved from this life…
I like it.
I’m loving that accent wall.
I’m also loving the posts, seeing the process, and jealous of more bookshelf space. 😉
Is this more North, South, East or West from where you started? ‘Cause if I ever get the option, I’m building “Compound North.” You can have the other three cardinal directions, because I’m generous. 😉
It is northwest of us. I’m not sure if we’re taking The Compound name–it may be yours one day. =)
Compound North would be a good name, perhaps it could even be shortened to Compound N. It may be auspicious that you’re north, but not west, of now’s compound. Compound West wouldn’t work as well. Compound W?
I feel like if we use anything with “compound” in it, we’re cheating on our current house. When do the feelings for a home you’ve loved that’s full of so many memories fade? I never lived in any place this long, as you know.
Those cabinets are amazing! Loving the floors and the colors you’ve chosen as well. Moving is a royal pain, but it can have its rewards, and it looks like you’re discovering them.
Thank you! I don’t know how you did it twice within such a short span of time. I used to move frequently, but I got out of the habit!
I am so envious of your game storage space! Our games are currently kept in a huge plastic tote in the basement, and while they’re at least all gathered together in one place, it’s a huge pain if you want to dig out one from the bottom of the box. A proper cabinet for the dining/living room is definitely on my list!
We had some of ours stored in the garage, where a few years ago I realized they were getting mildewy and stinky. We had to get rid of some of the boxes and let the game pieces air out. Also, since they weren’t accessible, we didn’t play them much. Maybe that will change now–plus it’s been so long that I’ve probably forgotten all the old Trivial Pursuit answers and it’ll be like a new game!
OMG. That room is big!
You would find our house tiny, tiny, tiny.
Our previous house would fit inside your house with room to spare, I think.
