Snow Dog

Sorry for the poor quality of this photo, but again, scanner is broken. A little over two months after we adopted Margot in September of 2000, Tom and I drove to Utah, where many of the Cochranes converged for Thanksgiving. At some point on the trip, Margot saw her first snow, and she was not amused. Since I always know what the dogs think, I knew she’d like to say, “I am from HOUSTON. Get me back to my muggy autumns. This cold wet stuff sucks!”

Each time that I have the opportunity to photograph our rescue group’s dogs and cats before they leave for their new homes in colder climates, I assure the heat seekers (like dachshunds and chihuahuas) that someone will adopt them and put silly sweaters on them and keep them warm. And for the other dogs, I tell them of the wonders of snow and how much fun they’re going to have living where it’s not so freaking hot.

Colorado offers a great life for dogs whose lives are saved in Texas.

  1. Snow always seems to be a surprise to Renee, like something she’s never seen before. Ice, she just hates. It’s like learning to walk all over again. I agree with her. It’s great to see Houston’s unwanted are being wanted and loved across the country.

    1. She is!

Scruff loves an adventure. Poppy’s a dainty thing. Guinness, though not petite like Poppy, can’t stand to get her feet wet.
