March 4 is Timmy’s birthday, and though I wished him a happy day on FB and mailed him a card, I just want to reiterate here: Happy birthday, Timmy! I feel like this year, we’ve sort of given each other a mutual present, because when Foolish Hearts is published at year’s end, it will include a new story from him. And today, March 5, is our nephew John’s birthday and my dear friend Debbie’s birthday. It’s also ‘Nathan’s birthday. Shout-outs to all!
March 4 is also my mother’s birthday. I didn’t spend the day being sad and missing her, though. You may recall that Lynne sold Green Acres. She closed on her new home last week, and I spent Monday out there mostly doing nothing. I even forgot to take photos of the new place. And I haven’t yet come up with a name to call it.
However, I did get to see Minute and Paco. The lone box I unpacked had the old towel that Lynne made and used to bring out during the marathon card games we played back in the old days. I made Paco pose with it.
I told Lila that Paco is old and cranky like me. She quickly said, “You’re not cranky!” Notice she didn’t say I’m not old.
Later, we all went out to eat, and Lila rode with me, regaling me with observations and stories along the way. Kids have the greatest imaginations–so I don’t know why she doesn’t buy the whole “I’m thirty-five” thing.
To Lila thirty-five is ancient.
True!
