A very happy day to all of you who are fathers–whether by biology, fostering, adopting, step-parenting, or acting as father figures to those with whom you share a profound bond of love. I had a terrific father and some wonderful “other dads” who loved and mentored me–U.A., I.J., and Gerald. I still have a great father-in-law. I’m grateful for them all.
I’ve just been talking to mine on the phone. We talked about cars. Me. Go figure.
It’s been a long time, but I still remember talking to my father on the phone. As I recall, it was mostly, “Here’s your mother.”
Dads do that. I get mine to talk now and again, but I usually have to use cars as bait.
Whatever works! Dads are a funny bunch.
My dad and I talked about job prospects (mine), my brother, the kids and stuff in general. He’ll be 81 next month.
It makes me happy when I hear Father’s Day stories from my friends. In my head, I still talk to both my parents, but it’s not quite the same when they’re not answering back. 😉
