Runway Monday All Stars: Let’s Get Down to Business

On the most recent episode of Lifetime’s Project Runway All Stars, the designers faced their last challenge before the finale. To determine which three All Stars would be showing at Fashion Week, the designers had to create a ready-to-wear look within budget. The winning outfit would be produced by designer Nanette Lepore and sold nationwide for charity.

I chose Cleo de Nile’s older sister Nefera for this challenge because she has the perfect look for the fabric I wanted to use, a colorful embroidered batik.

I designed a full skirt, keeping it tea length so it can be dressed up or down, depending on shoes and accessories, and paired it with a peekaboo bodice.

The fabric may be Indonesian, but sometimes Nefera just has to walk like an Egyptian.

In cobra shoes! Watch out for the honey badger.

A twirl and a “Stop! In the name of fashion.”

The next time you’ll see the Monsters on the runway is when I present my final collection. Thanks for sharing this season with me and for your comments.

A final glance at all of this season’s looks, including the incomparable Miss Piggy:

    1. Thank you very much! I’m so glad I saved this doll and fabric for a big finale, because she is quite striking. She’s also a little larger than the other Monster Highs (thus, for Gary’s purposes in the comment below yours, I went ahead and figured at Barbie’s 1:6 scale).

  1. I’m with Marika; this is my favorite this season!! One question, though; what were your selling price & your fabric budget? And did you stay with in it? 😉

Can’t wait for your final colllection.

    1. Thanks!

Hmmm. Okay, hang on, because I did some math.

Taking an average of all four designers’ selling prices, I got 382.50. At 1:6 scale, my look should sell for 63.75. Their average fabric cost was $46.50. At 1:6 scale, my fabric cost should be 7.75. My actual fabric cost was 3.75. So YES, I stayed within the fabric budget! Woohoo!

    1. Thanks very much, Lisa! Ever the diva, Miss Piggy wanted her own shelf. (Plus she needs a little support to stand–she may have been in your liquor stash!)

  2. I did see the finale this week, and I must say I am happy with the result, but I’m not too thrilled by the dramatrauma post-finale episode advertized during the finale (or rather whenever they interrupted commercials to advertise the next episode of a tv show already in progress). I was actually betting on the first person who did not win to win, but all the time saying that if I was a fashion designer pro, I would probably behave like the guy who did win. There, I didn’t give anything away 😉

    1. * I didn’t watch that extra dramatrauma episode after the finale. After all that relentless advertising, I had no interest. I just went to sleep.

    2. I was happy with the final outcome, too, though really, I like all three of the finalists. I just thought he was utterly robbed on his season and deserved another look. I love his work.
