30 Days of Creativity 2011, Day 8

Margot and Guinness each have a medium-sized crate, which they love. But we also keep a large crate in our house for when the bigger dogs visit. Penny likes to hide toys in there to play with later. Guinness and Margot will go in it to get away from the big dogs when they’re being rowdy. I can crate Lynne’s little ones there together when they’re visiting and I need to leave the house for a while. The big crate gets a lot of use, which means its bedding does, too.

Whenever I shop at Jo-Ann’s, I check the remnant section because small pieces of fabric are perfect for doll clothes. I was there earlier today and spotted a larger remnant which, with a little sewing and stuffing, is now–TA DA!–a new dog bed for the big crate. So far, Margot has not let anyone else test it.

Peace, dawg.

  1. I may have to suggest this to Cary. Carter was sick a few months back and totally ruined their bed and Cary has yet to replace it.

  2. First you inspired me to make napkins… (I cut them out. They still need to be hemmed) and now I am inspired to make a bed like that for Peaches. (She has the same type of crate.)

I have some pink fabric, already. I’ll need to get some stuffing!

What an excellent idea. Your Peace, dawg bedding is adorable.
    🙂

    1. I used the fiber stuff for mine, because I already had it, but one of the things people stuff their dog beds with is old clothes. If you take off all the buttons and stuff to make them softer, apparently dogs can still pick up their humans’ scent on them (even when laundered), so the beds are even more comforting.

      1. Ooooohhhhhhhh I LOVE that idea!
I have loads of cast-off clothing. Shirts, t’shirts, jeans, etc. Those things would work a treat! I never thought about the scent thing, either. That’s a bonus that makes sense!

I think that I am going to wander in to the clothes stash and see what I can run up. This would make a great project for today….

    2. I want to see photos of the napkins and dog bed when they’re done! Maybe Peaches could pose on her bed and show Margot how to look HAPPY.

      1. Hee!

I’ll definitely post pictures of the bedding and the napkins. I’ll do my best to catch Peaches looking happy in her crate. She doesn’t like it in there, overly. I’m thinking that she is going to look an awful lot like Margot, up there.
        😉
