Little Things

In another of those “things you find when you’re looking for something else” category…

I discovered a Hallmark box of miniature ornaments that I know came from Lynne, since they are from the Dr. Seuss book Green Eggs and Ham. I once wrote a character named Sam–not the Sam who shows up in Coventry, but a different Sam–and when he first appeared in my fiction, Lynne quoted the line, “Sam I am.”

I photographed them with a dime to show you just how small they are. Maybe that’s why they’ve been hiding from me since the release year on the box, 2000. So cute.

“Would you eat them in a box?
Would you eat them with a fox?”

  1. My very first years of school I attended Beth Israel’s (Jewish) private school, Shlenker. Upon reading Green Eggs & Ham in class, we had a Green Eggs & Ham picnic of sorts. But since it was a Jewish school and ham is not kosher, we had green eggs and turkey. Green turkey is very gross looking. You know, in case you were wondering.

  2. Every time I say “Seuss” I get strange looks. In the UK, we were taught his name rhymes with “Rejoice” (“Zoice”) which I guess would be the German way to say it. I can’t break the habit.

I adore ornaments with stories. (This may not surprise you.)
