I just saw this reported on the news, and three people have posted about her death on my F-Last so far. The last time I saw her was when she took part in the Comedy Central Roast of Pamela Anderson. I didn’t realize she was in her eighties.
I don’t know how the exact quote goes, because I can’t find my copy, but David Sedaris wrote, “Everyone knows the Voice of Reason sounds like Bea Arthur.”
What a talent! Her show business career spanned over 70-years on stage, screen and television. She was on the Sid Caesar show in the early 50’s, appear on Broadway with Lotte Lenya in The Three Penny Opera, played the part of Yenta the Matchmaker in the original company of Fiddler On The Roof. And she was the only good thing about the movie version of Mame. A classy and classic lady.
🙁
How sad…
Rest in Peace Ms. Arthur…
Sigh. She’ll be missed.
Maude was one of my Mom’s favorite shows… and I loved the Golden Girls. She gave the world a lot of laughter…
AW!
i am so sad to hear that!
after seeing several roasted that she attended, she seemed to be a really, really good-natured person.

death of a golden girl
How sad. I’m sure Sam would welcome her to cancer victim heaven. (Sam died June 21, 2002 at home like she did.)
A grand dame passes . . . RIP.
I had no idea she was 86 either. Very sad.
