Do most of the people in your life know you have a blog or online journal? Do they read it? Do they ever worry about what you plan to write about a particular incident? Do they impose a no-photo rule or tell you what’s off limits from their lives? Do you pay attention to any of that; does it affect your content?
Do most of the people in your life know you have a blog or online journal?
Yes.
Do they read it?
Aside from three or four real-life friends who blog too, I don’t think anyone else bothers. As far as I know, even my Spouse doesn’t read it.
Do they ever worry about what you plan to write about a particular incident?
I doubt it because they know it’s my place for spontaneous tomfoolery and yakking with other writers… not a diary. I don’t write much personal stuff here, and even when I do the names are left out.
Do they impose a no-photo rule or tell you what’s off limits from their lives?
Not really, they know I’ll be discreet and respect their privacy. As for photos, it’s my own policy not to post photos of my family members, except in closed venues. I want to protect them. I hardly ever post photos of ME, for that matter. I’m here to write, not to be a cam-whore. 🙂
Do you pay attention to any of that; does it affect your content?
Absolutely. Nothing I do here should invade or violate someone else’s privacy.
However, to get to know anyone online, there’s no alternative but to swallow your fear, step up, and speak to them. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. I think of it as a vast cocktail party!
I have not come out of the blogging closet.
What a perfectly timed post. Last night a friend who knows I keep an online journal told me she recently past it along to a friend of hers who liked it, and said she’ll add it her list of favorite “flamboyant bogs.”

Yes
Do they read it?
Only Chris H.
Do they ever worry about what you plan to write about a particular incident?
Not to my knowledge
Do they impose a no-photo rule or tell you what’s off limits from their lives?
If they asked me not to post a photo or not to talk about soemthing, I’d respect that.
Do you pay attention to any of that; does it affect your content?
See above
Yes, my entire family and all of my friends know that I have a blog. I sent them all the address. No one has ever said anything about it, I don’t think any of them have ever bothered to read it. No, that’s wrong, one friend wanted to know who that Cody guy was who was writing in my blog. Even though I most write about myself (which makes for uneventful and occasionally reading) I give any people I write about fictional names. And since I always make them better and more exciting than they are in real life, they wouldn’t know I was writing about them anyway.

Do most of the people in your life know you have a blog or online journal?
My family doesn’t know as far as I know. My wife knows but doesn’t read it because she rarely gets online. I’ve told her when I post about her sometimes. I don’t tell her when I’m angry with her and post my outrage on my blog. Yeek!
Do they read it?
Some local people who also LJ read it, but not very many.
Do they ever worry about what you plan to write about a particular incident?
No, I’ve never had anyone say anything to me about it.
Do they impose a no-photo rule or tell you what’s off limits from their lives?
No! For one thing I can’t figure out the photo thingy, so that’s no problem. I’m usually pretty discreet about everyone except Melissa.
Do you pay attention to any of that; does it affect your content?
No, I post what I want. I only second guess myself sometimes, but most of the time I just blurt out whatever I want to say.
What about you, Becky?

My boyfriend only looks at my journal when something really cool happens to me/us, to see what I wrote about it, and gets disappointed if I don’t make an entry. I have a group set up tho, that includes pretty much my whole f-list except him, so even if there’s photos or something I don’t want him to read, I can still post (after all it’s MY journal).
None of my siblings know I blog, and most of the day-to-day people I work with/am friends with would care if they did know.
