Mysteries … but I have been enjoying my trip into adventure which is what I am reading this year … lots and lots of Rafael Sabatini this year.
I’ve been on my mystery kick for years now! But my brain is so overloaded these days that even though I have a bunch of unread ones, I just need some good writing to fall into that doesn’t have me wondering whodunit every night. So I’m rereading all my Louise Penny mysteries. Even so, I find I’ve forgotten the guilty party in most of them, so they are just as enjoyable as they were the first time. She really knows how to create compelling characters, and you know that’s what I crave from all books. =)
I had to look up Rafael Sabatini. Arrrr.
Recently, I’ve had my taste of comic strips. My dosage includes the staples such as Dilbert, Close to Home, and Overboard. I get a good healthy doseage of nerdiness with XKCD and Piled Higher and Deeper. Other gneres include Sci-Fi, Gay Romance and IEEE.
I think I read nothing but gay fiction throughout the 90s, and now none at all unless it’s written by friends. So I’m out of the loop on what’s out there.
My favorite comics will always be Doonesbury, Calvin and Hobbes, Bloom County, and Foxtrot, even if they’re no longer being produced or if I’m way behind in some of them. Dilbert’s always fun, too.
Foxtrot seems to be produced on Sundays, but the weekdays are “classic” reprints, which are always fun to see again. My Mom’s Sister’s Daughter’s son (who has Autism) discovered Calvin and Hobbes which made me want to read those again, and he has a tiger and they have birthday parties and a heavy dose of imagination.
That’s a great tribute to the imaginative world of Calvin and Hobbes. =)
I am an avid myster reader. (However, I put off reading the last Westlake/Dortmunder mystery because after I finish it there will be no more.)
I know–I haven’t read them all–in fact, there are several on the shelf unread, as well as those unpurchased as of yet. But I don’t want to come to the end of them either. They’re so fun.
Just discovered Westlake’s youngest son has taken over and is updating the D.E.W. webpage. Also all of the nearly 100 books written under a variety of pen names are being republished under the Westlake imprint in paperback and e-book formats.
That’s great news!
History. Quelle surprise.
I always enjoy hearing about what you’re reading, too.
Are you managing to find time to read? Or is that a silly question?
Oh, I have to. I can give up social things and television and movies, but reading keeps me sane.
