Look Back

Recently my brother sent me a link to vintage postcard photos of the ship he believes we were on when we traveled from Germany to the US a few months after my birth, General Simon B. Buckner. I don’t know who owns the rights to these photos, but if you’re interested in ships, you can check out the full site here.

2022 ETA: Unfortunately, the home movie of my family leaving Germany was deleted from its hosting site, and the computer it was on died.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing. My grandmother’s parents or grandparents were from Bremer which is how she pronounced Bremen. They settled in Saint Louis shortly before the Civil War in a part of the city that was known as Bremen Town.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed it! There’s also a Bremen, Germany, in the same region as the coastal Bremerhaven. We had a long trip by train to get to the North Sea, because we were stationed in southern Germany near Munich. Of course, I remember none of this.

  2. Whatever happened to Baby Becks..?

I didn’t know you were old enough to have been evacuated before the outbreak of war in Europe! ;o)

Seriously, though, how wonderful to have such footage. I wish my parents and grandparents had had home movie cameras.

    1. Ha ha! I wonder if my sister wants to do a Baby Jane movie with me?

I wish our old home movies were better quality, but I am grateful to have them.
