Holidayish

Now that most of my holiday cards have been mailed out and I’m receiving them (oh, I’m receiving such GOOD ones, too; I know a few little card elves who need e-mail), and now that almost all my shipping is done (NIGHTMARE! IN THE RAIN! TWO POST OFFICES!), I’ve been sort of indifferent about decorating.

When Tom got home from work Wednesday, he decided it was a good night to put up the tree and string the lights, a sort of pre-decorating activity. No definite plans yet for when we’ll hang ornaments, but whenever my Two Jew Crew, their mistress, Miss Sugar, and Lynne with Santa’s helpers, Sparky and Minute, want to give it a whirl–Thursday night? Friday night?–I’m game. There will be snacks. And probably Starbucks.

Wait; what? Your Jewish friends don’t help you decorate your Christmas tree? Maybe you should ask them! It’s a Compound holiday tradition, along with some others. Like digging Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus out of storage and setting up their workshop (photo to come).

And the annual photo of the new sleigh bell:

And, of course, a big party with notable guests such as:

The 1993 Holiday Barbie and her escort, a slightly modified Beverly Hills 90210 Brandon Walsh.

It feels like my heart may be growing three sizes.

  1. First, I now have Apple Jack mess to clean off the desk, thanks to “Two Jew Crew.” Good one!

Second, you already have one of the biggest hearts of anyone I haveever encountered.

Finally, have a ball when ever you decorate. I’m hoping to finish ours tomorrow before I head to Nashville for and S&P World Hunger benefit show or Saturday night after work.

You should hear our new single “Me So Kosher,” on our latest CD, “As Whiney As We Wanna Be.”

  2. (a) No one, and I mean no one, can outdo Holiday Barbie 1993. Wow. That’s some dress.

    (b) Two Jew Crew. Like Gary, I now need to wipe my monitor.

    (c) I love the inflow of Christmas Cards. It makes me of the happiness.

  3. I’m so down with tonight if we can get one tiny shopping trip out of the way first. Tree decorating (and snacks! and Starbucks!) is enough to motivate me to shop faster. Also, Mistress is gonna be coming out to the house tonight to retrieve some things before football practice (which is totally going to be canceled… have you looked outside?!), so I bet we could make tonight work.

Tomorrow is Chanukah party #3 at my Mom’s, but it’s early… So usual craft night after?

Two Jew Crew loves to decorate Christmas trees! Unless you want me to string popcorn and then all bets are off (OMG, that shit takes for-ev-er).

    1. YAY!

No popcorn stringing. We did that for one of our trees back when I was in college, and what a lot of work! Though it’s fun to eat the popcorn while stringing.

    2. What?!? No football in the cold rain? What’s the matter with you? That’s the best time to be out on the field. (Watching football in that kind of weather is a completely different story!)

  4. Your “Two Jew Crew” comment sent coffee flying from my cup…. *cleans off desk*

One of my close friends is Jewish. She always sends me the best Christmas ornaments! I am sure that, if she and I lived nearer to one another, she would help to decorate my tree, too.
    🙂

Your new sleigh bell is very pretty.

(And I have to say that the idea of there being a Team Ashley out there, somewhere, is a very scary thought to consider….)
    O.o

    1. HA HA. But as I pointed out to Marika, Team Charles Hamilton would be even sadder. Poor guy.

Thanks on the sleigh bell. My former employer gave them to all the employees each Christmas, and after I no longer worked there, I kept buying them for myself. My sleigh bells bring me great holiday happiness.
