Heat wave, etc.

I think because we’re in the middle of a heat wave (With rolling blackouts! It’s like Enron vs. California all over again!), I was dog-tired last night. I fell asleep around 8 p.m. Unfortunately, that meant I woke up at around 11:30 p.m. and couldn’t get back to sleep. I got LOTS accomplished throughout the night in preparation for our signing.

Now I’m dog-tired again. Tim just brought in gifts from the mailman…

…and I’m trying to decide who to curl up with first. I won’t be reading that box of SOMEONE LIKE YOU–I already know how it ends. Insight Out is the only way I can get some of our books in hardcover, so I buy them as gifts for both sides of my family. Even the ones who shun my books (my family, not Tom’s) can at least have unread hardcovers.

I’ve already read BEST GAY LOVE STORIES 2006, but again, I needed a hardcover. I’ve already read MARDI GRAS MAMBO, but in galleys, so I plan to read it again. And look at the abundance! New Stephen McCauley. New Joe Keenan. Three Rick Copps I never read before. Two Poppy Z. Brite novels–my first time to read her.

It’s practically my book allowance for the year (and included a gift certificate, thank you very much, Jim). Oh, Famous Author Rob Byrnes, if you’re reading, don’t fret. Even though I already used my Borders gift certificate (thanks, Amy and Richard!), I’ve still got the Amazon gift certificate (thanks, Lynne!) for WHEN THE STARS COME OUT in September.
