Evacuation Hell

Gridlock. Everywhere. In five hours, we got 15 miles. And then we gave up. We are with friends in the suburbs and hoping that the worst that may happen is power loss.

It appears we could have made the right decision, as Rita currently seems to be targeting New Orleans. Now I’m worried about Greg again at his housesitting place.

  1. Watching the weather channel makes me really nervous for you guys. Do you know if the roads are any better now that they made the whole interstate northbound only? If you head out again and there will be too much rain to go through to get to Alabama, truly, TRULY(!) come up here.

  2. P.S. If you come up here, we can track down and meet Mr. ForestHaven, take a walk through his woods. He can’t live too far from here. =) How’s that for another reason?

  3. We’re kind of glad you didn’t make it far. When we realized the storm was heading the same direction you were, we got a little worried. Thanks for calling and letting us know where you are. When I’m less exhausted, I’ll write and post the riveting “24 Hours of Hell” entry.

  4. Guess it’s your turn 🙁

It sucks, I know. I was hoping the damn thing would just evaporate, but I guess it’s not gonna. I hope everything goes okay for ya’ll.

Good luck. I’ll be sending good thoughts your way.

  5. Thanks, everybody. We should start seeing some bad weather later this afternoon and tonight, with the worst of it where we are tomorrow morning. If we lose power, Tim or I will post again as soon as we can.

It means a lot to know so many people are wishing us well. I just saw footage of New Orleans—poor beautiful city. These hurricanes are BITCHES.
